Suspected ISIS Members Nabbed in Manila Philippines

MANILA – suspected ISIS member nabbed in Taguig City weeks ago, said Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II last Thursday.

Upon the arrest, it was confirmed that the militant group, responsible for the hideous attacks all over the world has finally reached the Philippines.

Kuwaiti Husayn al-Dharifi (R) and Syrian Rajaf Zina, suspected to have links to Islamic State, are presented to the media during a press conference at the National Bureau of Investigations headquarters in Manila, Philippines on Apr 6, 2017

The suspected ISIS members were presented by Aguirre to the media during a press conference. They were Kuwaiti national Husayn Al-Dhafiri and a Syrian national Rahaf Zina. According to Zina, she is the wife of Al-Dhafiri according to ABS-CBN

The two were arrested by the Bureau of Immigration on March 25, in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. Both are now in the custody of NBI.

According to the intelligence report coming from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Dhafiri was possibly involved in the manufacturing of explosives and possibly planning something against Kuwait. His allegedly aliases were Warsh Al-Kuwaiti and Abu Muslim Al Kuwaiti.

“Al-Dhafiri has links to terrorism and is believed to pose a threat to the national security of the Philippines,” according to Aguirre. The information came from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). They also conducted the operation mainly due to a tip from NBI intelligence.

Additionally, the two allegedly traveled to Cebu, stayed for three days and in Davao, where they stayed for four days, all in the month of January 2017, said BI Commissioner Jaime Morente. It was also found out that the suspects went to different places in the Philippines last year despite Al-Dhafiri’s passport already cancelled by the Kuwaiti government.

They used aliases that are not mentioned in the lookout bulletin so they can enter the Philippines. But then, they failed to present a valid immigration document for verification at the Bureau of Investigation Main Office.

The two suspects will be deported as they have violated the immigration laws. However, the female suspect was sent to the hospital after claiming that she is pregnant.
